Fifty 50 Club Donates GHS10,000 to Support 8-Year-Old Boy’s
Guided by the mine’s value on communities’, members of the Fifty 50 Club mainly Employees of AngloGold Ashanti Ghana, its contractors and sustainable development units, have made a cheque donation of GHS10,000 to an 8- year-old boy Saviour Dakura an indigene of Obuasi. He was diagnosed with a Hole in Heart condition, in 2016 and underwent an initial surgery at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital. Saviour Dakura who was scheduled for the second phase two years ago could not make it due to his family’s inability to raise the needed funds for the surgery. The Club also donated to Alice Sakyi, a 45-year old woman from Mensahkrom in Obuasi. She is a single parent taking care of her 15-year old son and a mentally challenged sister. She is a hawking seamstress (“Adieyie”). The Club provided her with a store and set her up with a petty trading business to enable her take care of her son and sister. Another beneficiary, Agnes Sekyere, a 56-year old woman from Gausu in Obuasi who had suffered from stroke for 12 years and after recovering, she hasn’t been able to walk properly. She is a pure water seller who keeps her goods in the neighbour’s refrigerator to keep it chilled for her customers. The Fifty 50 Club purchased a new refrigerator for her and funded the initial stocking – with sachet water and soft drinks. Presenting the check to the family of Saviour Dakura, Jacob Edmund-Acquah, the Club President (AGAG), said they hope to repeat their donations every four months.He noted that the Fifty 50 Club was started in July this year and members contribute at least GHS50 a month to enable them to support the needy in the community.  Edward Dakura, the father of Savour Dakura expressed his appreciation to the Fifty 50 Club” for the kind gesture. Mr. Edmund-Acquah also said the assistance the Club offers to individuals and communities is also aimed at contributing to the achievement of the United Nations (UN) Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). They currently have 108 members and hoped to have more members to enable them to support more people.
